About the Purohit

About Purohit Surendharan Ravi (Surya)

Namaste. I am Purohit Surendharan Ravi (Surya), a Vedic priest with over 10 years of experience serving Hindu families across Canada and the United States. Based in Whitby, Ontario, I am honored to perform authentic, heartfelt rituals for the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Gujarati communities.

My journey as a purohit is rooted in family tradition, strengthened through formal Vedic training, and deepened by a personal calling from Dharma. Every ritual I perform is guided by sincere devotion and a commitment to preserving our sacred traditions.

I perform a wide range of Hindu rituals including Satyanarayan Puja, Griha Pravesh, Namakaran, wedding rites, Shraddha, Tarpan, and other major festival pujas. Whether your family follows South Indian, North Indian, or blended traditions, I adapt the rituals to honor your customs with precision and reverence.

To make your experience seamless, I arrange all necessary puja items, including fresh flowers, and can also arrange food (prasad and meals) for your gathering. You need only provide the space and your devotion. I handle the rest.

I am available to travel across Canada and the United States to conduct rituals in your home, venue, or temple.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Booking, availability, preparation and what to expect on the day.

How far in advance should I book a puja?

Two to four weeks is comfortable, and earlier during festival season. If you already have a date in mind, call or WhatsApp and I will confirm availability and the auspicious time for that day.

Which areas of Ontario do you travel to?

The Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo and Ottawa are covered regularly. Rituals farther afield in Ontario are arranged too, mention your city when you reach out.

What do we need to arrange at home?

Very little. A clean space, a small table or mat for the altar, and the presence of your family are enough. Everything the ritual needs is looked after on the day, so you can stay focused on the sankalpa.

How should we prepare our home before the ritual?

Clean the space, keep a small table or mat for the altar in the north-east corner, and have a bath before the ritual begins. Everything else, seating, flame safety, smoke alarms in condos, is covered in the notes you receive.

Which languages are the rituals performed in?

Mantras are chanted in Sanskrit, with explanations offered in English, Tamil or Hindi so every guest can follow the meaning of each step.

Is there a fixed dakshina?

No. Every family's situation is different, and the sankalpa itself, the intention to protect your roots and your dharma, is the greatest offering. There is no fixed denomination; give as your heart and circumstances allow. My service is to uphold and protect the traditions I preach and follow.
